This piece is more than just a rug. It’s an important ethnographic artifact of the Armenian community of Iran. It’s not only western dated 1846 but also dated with Armenian letters 1295 ԱՄ corresponding to the Gregorian calendar or equivalent to 1846 AD. The entire rug is woven with repeated Armenian church cupolas with a cross on its steeple. Inside we see an altar and above the altar hangs a cross. Below the cross on the altar is the Eucharist inside a tabernacle. Facing serpents protect the interior of the Church.
With a wonderfully creative and varied border. 6'6" x 4"3" (200 cm x 130 cm)
