19th C Antique Armenian Khndzoresk known as Cloudband in the rug trade. It is mistakenly believed serpent/dragon motif was adopted from Chinese art. Serpent/dragon mythology goes back to the bronze age in the Armenian highland when Dragon Stones or Stelae were placed to indicate water sources.
